President Tinubu calls for unity among ECOWAS member states

In a speech at the inauguration of the Sixth Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu urged member states to unite, strengthen their bonds, and resist any efforts aimed at creating divisions within the community.

As the Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu emphasized the importance of regional solidarity in enhancing the bloc’s resilience and effectiveness in the face of current challenges.

He underscored the need for active collaboration among member states to prevent the community from disintegrating, stating that passivity is not an option in the current scenario.

“We are resolute in opposing divisive forces and are dedicated to preserving our unity. It is crucial that we consolidate our cooperation to foster a shared sense of destiny and purpose. Collaboration is essential for our collective progress,” Tinubu asserted.

Highlighting the significance of upholding the decisions made by the Authority of Heads of State to demonstrate ECOWAS’s unity, Tinubu stressed the importance of the executives showing trust in the Parliament, which would enhance democracy in the region. He also noted that amidst existing challenges, partnership can drive stability, growth, and prosperity.

President Tinubu reiterated Nigeria’s strong commitment to the community’s goals and the fundamental principles underpinning the establishment of the ECOWAS Parliament.
