The Borno State Police Command recovered a large cache of live ammunition in Maiduguri after intelligence reports led officers to a concealed arms dump within the Kumshe Jamba Mari area of the state capital.

Police operatives uncovered the ammunition on Sunday during an intelligence-led operation coordinated by the Divisional Police Officer of Lamisula Division.

Acting on the information received, officers moved to the location and secured the area to prevent public exposure to danger.

The command said personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit were deployed to examine and retrieve the concealed items.

According to the police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, the operation resulted in the recovery of 912 rounds of B32 API type (7.62 x 51mm) ammunition, noting that no suspects were arrested during the exercise.

He said, “The area was professionally cordoned off, and a total of nine hundred and twelve (912) rounds of B32 API type (7.62 x 51mm) ammunition were safely recovered.”

Daso further stated that security personnel secured the recovered ammunition as exhibits, noting that investigators commenced efforts to determine how the weapons were concealed and the purpose for which they were intended.

He said, “The recovered exhibits have been secured, while investigations are ongoing to trace the source and intended use of the ammunition, as well as to apprehend those responsible.”

The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, acknowledged the role of residents in providing timely intelligence that led to the recovery.

He reaffirmed the command’s reliance on intelligence-driven operations to disrupt criminal activities and prevent the circulation of illicit arms.

Abdulmajid also urged residents to maintain cooperation with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious movements or activities, noting that community collaboration remains critical to preventing arms proliferation and strengthening public safety across the state.
