Police foil attempted sale of assault rifle  

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in Accra for unlawful possession of a firearm.  

The arrest followed intelligence that the suspect had arranged to meet prospective buyers to sell an assault rifle at Sodom and Gomorrah on December 29, 2025.  

A police press release copied to the Ghana News Agency said the suspect, identified as Abdulai Ibrahim, was arrested at the meeting point after presenting a box containing a CZ rifle for sale.  

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect presented a box containing a CZ rifle, which he offered for sale at a cost of GH¢35,000, and further admitted to having previously transported several pump-action guns to individuals in the Northern Region,” it said.  

The release said Ibrahim disclosed that the firearms were allegedly sourced from an arms dealer operating around UTC in Accra, prompting investigations to trace and arrest all persons connected to the illegal arms trade.  

The police retrieved the firearm during the arrest and secured it for further investigation.  

Ibrahim is currently in custody assisting investigations, as efforts continue to dismantle the network involved in the unlawful possession and distribution of firearms.
