Police Arrest Prime Suspect in Shocking Murder of Alhaji Kawu Boga in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested the younger brother of slain Alhaji Kawu Boga as the prime suspect in his murder, recovering an AK-47 rifle.and other weapons used in the crime.

The incident, which occurred on January 20, 2026, in Boga Village, Gombi Local Government Area, has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the persistent threat of armed violence and intra-family conflicts in parts of the state.

According to a press release issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, operatives from the Gombi Divisional Police Headquarters, acting on credible intelligence and in collaboration with professional hunters, arrested Abubakar Sadiq, 40, a resident of Boga Village.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to killing his elder brother, Alhaji Sadiq Kawu Boga, and implicated five accomplices in the crime. He led police to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and 24 rounds of live ammunition believed to have been used in the murder.

The suspect further identified two of his alleged accomplices: Jalo Hamiyu, 35, and Umar Baba, 41, both from Fotta Village in Gombi LGA. When a joint team of police operatives, hunters, and Civilian Joint Task Force members moved to arrest them, the duo opened fire on the security team in an attempt to escape.

A fierce gun duel ensued, resulting in the neutralization of both suspects. Additional exhibits recovered from the scene included one locally made single-barrel rifle and one Dane gun.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, PSC (+), commended the gallantry and professionalism of the officers involved, particularly the Divisional Police Officer and his team.

He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating violent crimes, including culpable homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms, while ensuring the safety of lives and property across Adamawa State.

“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fleeing members of this criminal network,” CP Morris stated. He urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.

The arrested suspect, Abubakar Sadiq, will face charges in court upon completion of investigations.

This case underscores the challenges posed by illegal arms proliferation in rural areas and the determination of security forces to tackle such threats head-on. The Adamawa State Police Command has assured the public that no effort will be spared in bringing all perpetrators to justice.
