Following the attacks on Chikam community, adjacent Plateau State University (PLASU) in Bokkos, where a 200-Level Computer Science student, Dading James Jordan, lost his life, the institution has declared a two-day mourning period.

The University authorities also suspended the ongoing semester examinations.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the Registrar of the University, Yakubu Ayuba, a copy of which was made available to LEADERSHIP in Jos on Friday.

The statement also condoled with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Best, and the entire Management and Staff of PLASU, the family of the deceased and the students’ body in the institution over the irreparable loss.

Ayuba also lamented that the attacks occurred despite the efforts of Plateau State Government, security agencies, management of the institution and other stakeholders at improving the security situation.

According to him, the dastardly attack, which was very unfortunate, prompted the two-day mourning and suspension of the ongoing examinations.

“In view of this sad development, Management has declared a two-day mourning period on Friday and Saturday.”

Yakubu further called on students to remain calm and law-abiding, likewise on security agencies to beef up security around the university in order to secure staff and students as the institution looks for additional means of improving security of the institution.

Meanwhile, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has appealed for calm as security agencies were working to restore normalcy.

The governor, in a statement issued by the director of press and public affairs, Gyang Bere, described the attack as barbaric and reassured citizens, particularly students, of the state government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding their lives and property.

He urged them to remain composed in the face of the tragedy, as government was determined to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the heinous acts.
