ONE DEAD AS JACK-UP BARGE SINKS IN ESCRAVOS

A Jack-Up Barge Sunk on Friday at Chevron offshore field close to Escravos in Delta State and claimed one life, according to a source who witnessed the incident.

According to source, the incident occured as a result of the failure of one of the leg engines of the jack-up barge, which caused it to tilt in one direction and resulted in an imbalance, leading to the sinking of the barge.

The only recorded victim of the incident is said to be a catering staff who was alleged to have died from shock and heart failure, but whose identity is yet to be disclosed.

A Jack-Up Barge is a floating barge that has movable legs attached to the hull. These legs can be retracted and extended vertically, meaning that once it makes contact with the sea bed, the platform begins to move upwards and out of the water
