Guardiola says no team has won four EPL titles in a row

Pep Guardiola has admitted that Manchester City’s historic Treble has taken a toll on everyone at the club, including himself.

He stated this after The Sky Blues earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brighton to end a run of two Premier League defeats.

However, the champions were far from their fluent best against Roberto De Zerbi’s side, with Guardiola acknowledging there is a hangover from last season’s heroics.

The City manager, emphasising how difficult it is, stressed that no football team has ever won four English Premier League titles in a row.

Guardiola said; “The Treble had an influence on all of us, me included. So we need to be there, arriving in the final moments at the end of the season, being close to the opponents and trying to do it again.

“I said many times that no one has won four Premier League titles in a row, never ever, so that shows how difficult it is. But now it’s important to be there, especially in the Champions League, to qualify for the next round”.

Meanwhile, in other sports news…

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has revealed that the players pushed him to accept a reduction in salary from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The Portuguese coach agreed to a pay cut this summer so that he could remain in charge of the Nigerian national football team. The 63-year-old told Skysports that his players begged him to stay so they can win the tournament.

Peseiro said; “The players pushed me to stay because they believe we can win (the AFCON) We can win it. The players know it. They come with the same energy, the same belief, to fight for the Super Eagles.”

He will lead the Super Eagles to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire in January, 2023. Peseiro took charge of the Super Eagles in May 2022.
