NNPCL to inaugurate $2.8bn AKK gas pipeline in December

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has said the $2.8 billion Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano gas pipeline project will be inaugurated in December 2023 after missing the 2022 completion deadline.

On Tuesday, Oritsemiyiwa Eyesan, Executive Vice President, Upstream, NNPC Limited, made this known at the ongoing 41st Nigeria Association of Petroleum Explorationists 2023 expo in Lagos.

Speaking on the theme ‘Energy Infrastructure Development, Financing & Monetisation Strategies in Nigeria: Reducing the Risks of Entry’, Eyesan reiterated commitment to delivering the project in December was a testament to the company’s commitment to Nigeria’s Gas Master Plan.

“In the coming months, you will see a great difference in how we operate because NNPC is poised to drive more investments into the oil and gas sector. One of such huge investments is the AKK gas pipeline that will be commissioned this December,” she said.

Last month, the Minister of State, Gas, Ekperikpe Ekpo, at the Pai River crossing session in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, harped on the need to complete the AKK project after missing out on the 2022 earlier commissioning deadline.

The AKK pipeline is a 614 km-long pipeline launched by the NNPCL in July 2020 to transport natural gas from southern to central Nigeria.
