The Nigeria school abduction in Borno state has raised fresh security fears after dozens of students were reportedly kidnapped by militants.

ABUJA: A fresh Nigeria school abduction has triggered alarm in the country’s northeastern Borno state after suspected militants reportedly kidnapped dozens of students from a local school on Friday morning.

Residents said armed men stormed Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area while classes were taking place. Witnesses reported that the attackers arrived shortly after Nigerian troops had departed from the town, intensifying concerns about security gaps in vulnerable communities near the Sambisa forest.

Local residents and parents estimated that between 35 and 43 pupils were taken during the raid. Authorities had not officially confirmed the exact number of abducted students at the time of reporting, while security forces launched search operations in the surrounding area.

The Nigeria school abduction has once again drawn attention to the long-running insurgency affecting the country’s northeast. Armed groups operating in the region have repeatedly targeted schools and communities over the past 17 years, using kidnappings as a strategy to spread fear and pressure authorities.

One of the most widely known incidents occurred in 2014 when hundreds of schoolgirls were abducted from the town of Chibok in Borno state. That case sparked global outrage and highlighted the dangers faced by children in conflict-affected regions of Nigeria.

Security analysts say attacks near the Sambisa forest remain difficult to prevent because of the vast terrain and the presence of militant hideouts. Residents in Askira-Uba have called for stronger protection around schools and quicker military response measures to prevent future attacks.

The latest Nigeria school abduction is expected to renew pressure on authorities to strengthen security operations and improve safety for students across affected regions.
