Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.), has firmly addressed the ongoing calls for Nigeria’s disintegration, labeling those agitating for the country’s breakup as dreamers.

According to Punch Newspapers, Buratai made these remarks during the 60th birthday celebration of the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyelude, held in Kuta, Osun State on Sunday.

The event, attended by prominent figures such as the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and ex-Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, served as a platform for Buratai to advocate for national unity. He emphasized that the experience of the Nigerian Civil War should serve as a stern reminder that any agitation for the country’s division is bound to fail.

Buratai described the Olowu of Kuta as a detribalized Nigerian who has shown unwavering love to people from all ethnic backgrounds. He urged those advocating for Nigeria’s disintegration to rethink their stance, suggesting they would have to “carve out their own part and move it to the ocean” if they wished to leave.

“You know that Nigeria is one, unless you remove those people who are agitating and drift them to the Atlantic. We will remain one Nigeria. Anybody who wants to leave Nigeria should carry the part of the land and take it to the Atlantic; not within the Nigeria territory. It is very clear the level of integration,” Buratai asserted.

Highlighting the extensive ethnic integration within Nigeria, Buratai pointed out the presence of numerous Hausas in the south and many Yoruba and Igbo in the north. He stressed that political interests should not cloud the nation’s sense of unity and sovereignty. “Anybody that says that he wants to leave Nigeria is a dreamer because we had a bitter experience during the civil war. So it is not something that we will joke with,” Buratai added.

In his speech, Buratai called for peace and development, urging Nigerians to focus on actions that promote unity rather than divisive rhetoric. He advised that the country should work towards enhancing its unity by taking concrete steps that foster development.

In his own remarks, Oba Oyelude pledged to continue championing the cause of unity and progress in Nigeria. He called on all well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the country’s unity and development…….See_More
