Ned Nwoko finally reveals why he dumped PDP, blames Gov Oborevwori, ex-Gov Okowa

Senator Ned Nwoko has revealed that his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was due to his strained relationship with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Nwoko, who officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on January 31, cited deep divisions and irreconcilable factions within the PDP as the main reasons for his exit.

Oborevwori’s aide, Fred Oghenesivbe, had claimed that Nwoko left PDP out of fear of losing his ticket in 2027.

However, Nwoko countered this claim on Monday, February 3.

His words: “I left because I want to secure the ruling party’s support for the creation of Anioma State. The governor and Okowa, who are PDP leaders, oppose this. I sought PDP’s backing at the national level, but internal conflicts have paralyzed leadership.”

He further accused the Delta governor of sidelining him and neglecting agreed-upon projects.

“The governor ensured that I wasn’t allowed to function. He abandoned all the projects we discussed during campaigns, citing a lack of funds.

“The Okpai power plant and Ogwashi-Uku dam are clear examples. I had no input in board appointments, commissioner nominations, or local government chairmen selection.

“I had to join the ruling party to attract development to my constituency—time is running out,” he added.

Reacting to Nwoko’s defection, Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, dismissed its impact, stating that PDP remains strong.

“The same Ned Nwoko defected to APGA in 2003, PDP won. He left for DPP in 2011, PDP won again. Now, he has left PDP, but we are not bothered. PDP will still win Delta North in 2027. Right now, our focus is on governance, not politics,” Aniagwu said.
