The Public Service Commission (PSC) has launched countrywide interviews for the 8th Cohort of the Public Service Internship Programme (PSIP), targeting 7,000 unemployed university graduates eager to gain hands-on experience in government.

The selection process began on Monday, December 1, 2025, with 13,117 candidates shortlisted from a pool of 35,659 applicants. Interviews will run for one week, concluding on December 6, 2025. Successful candidates will be deployed in January 2026 to various government ministries, state departments, and agencies for a one-year paid internship.

Regional Centres to Ease Access

To accommodate candidates from across Kenya, the PSC has established 13 regional interview centres covering Nairobi, Central, Coast, Rift Valley, Nyanza, Western, Eastern, and North Eastern regions. This nationwide approach ensures candidates can attend interviews with minimal travel challenges.

PSC emphasizes that the recruitment reflects the Commission’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity, ensuring that the programme represents the face of Kenya.

Programme Objectives

The PSIP is designed to equip young Kenyans with practical work experience in the public service. It aims to enhance employability, develop technical skills, and provide insight into government operations, in line with Article 232 of the Constitution.

PSC Secretary and CEO, Paul Famba, MBS, reaffirmed that the Commission conducts recruitment with the highest standards of professionalism, fairness, merit, and transparency, as mandated by the Public Service Commission Act, 2017.

Guidance for Candidates

All shortlisted applicants have been notified via official SMS alerts and are advised to check the PSC Jobs Portal for detailed interview instructions. Candidates must attend in person on their scheduled dates and bring original documents, including:

  • National ID
  • Academic certificates
  • Transcripts

For those in remote areas, the Commission has arranged telephone interviews to ensure geographical barriers do not prevent participation.

The PSC also warned applicants against fraudulent claims, stressing that the recruitment process is entirely free of charge. Candidates should avoid anyone claiming to influence appointments into the programme.

Benefits of the Internship

The PSIP provides graduates with hands-on experience in government operations. Interns will engage in administrative, technical, and management activities, gaining skills crucial for career growth. By the end of the one-year programme, participants are expected to have a solid understanding of public service processes, strengthening their future employment prospects.

With this structured recruitment exercise, the PSC continues to bridge the gap between academic training and professional experience, tackling youth unemployment while building the capacity of the public service. The programme ensures graduates acquire practical skills while contributing meaningfully to national development.

This year’s PSIP exercise underscores the Commission’s ongoing commitment to professionalism, transparency, and equal opportunity, maintaining the programme as a credible and effective platform for nurturing Kenya’s young talent
