A protester who identified himself simply as Benjamin Chijioke has revealed why he decided to join in the ongoing nationwide protest.

Chijioke, who is among many citizens who trooped out on the streets on Thursday to protest hardship and the high cost of living, said although he may not have a future again in Nigeria, he will not allow the future of his child to be wasted.

“I rather die on the street than die at home. I can’t sit and watch the future of my son go to waste. I know I may not have a future again in Nigeria but my son’s future will not be wasted,” Chijioke said while responding to Channels TV reporters.

Chijioke’s remarks echo the sentiments of numerous Nigerians who are expressing their concern about the growing urgency and resolve to engage in street demonstrations.

During an interview at the protest location in Lagos State, Chijioke disclosed that he had travelled solo from Festac to Mile 2 to join the protest.

He discussed the impact of the current economic conditions on his family, especially on his gifted young son.

“My son at 13 is a programmer. I can’t even buy data for him to learn more. I can’t even pay for tuition fees, millions of naira. At 13, he can program video games,” Chijioke said.

Some protesters previously stated that the demonstrations would persist unless President Bola Tinubu fulfils their requests.

They urged the president to take appropriate action, and the protests will cease at once.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja, the Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, Damilare Adenola, expressed regret that the tyranny under the president’s administration had endured for an extended period.

He said, “The various court orders restricting protesters to particular locations are an aberration.

”Our presence here today is an announcement that we have been oppressed for too long.

“Today, we have risen. We saying to the president that unless President Bola Tinubu accede to our demands, we will remain on the streets. We want to see the president on the street. During the protest, he was on the street.”
