Mercedes-Maybach, S-Class And G-Class Sets New Record Sales In China In Q3 2023 - autojosh

Mercedes-Benz has had two of its electric models collide head-on as part of safety tests. According to the brand, its EVs are as safe as any non-electric cars it offers. Perhaps even more interesting is the goal that Mercedes-Benz sets in the field of preventing traffic accidents.

The United Nations has set the goal of halving the number of road deaths and serious injuries by around 2030 compared to 2020. From 2050 onwards, there should be no more fatal traffic accidents at all. Chief Technology Officer of Mercedes-Benz Markus Schäfer says that Mercedes-Benz is going one step further. According to Schäfer, Mercedes-Benz is doing everything it can to ensure that by 2050 there will be no more accidents in which a Mercedes-Benz car is responsible.

“We are consistently working towards realizing our vision of accident-free driving, which goes beyond the ‘Vision Zero’ targets of the WHO and the United Nations Regional Commissions,” said Schäfer. “We not only want zero road deaths by 2050 and a halving of the number of road deaths and serious injuries by 2030 […]. Our goal for 2050 is no more accidents involving a Mercedes-Benz vehicle.” Whether that is feasible, of course, remains to be seen. Subaru and Volvo, among others, have previously made promises in this area.
