Meet Zahra Bahlewa, Gideon Moi’s Wife Who Started as a Model

For decades, a number of Kenyan families have been very prominent in both politics and business. One of those that has continued to dominate is the Moi family, which produced the second President, Daniel arap Moi.

This family is not only dominant in the political arena but also in the business world, and as such, everyone who associates with them, either through marriage or otherwise, becomes of public interest.

For instance, Gideon Moi’s wife, Zahra Bahlewa, rubs shoulders with the spouses of political giants in the country. Although she first came to the limelight as an advert model, Zahra is now among the well-known wives of Kenyan leaders.

Modeling Career

Despite the younger generation now recognizing her as Gideon Moi’s wife, Zahra Bahlewa actually captured public attention in the 1990s when she was a model.

During her time as a model, Zahra was a brand ambassador and cover model for Lady Gay hand and body lotion.

As a result of being the face of Lady Gay, she appeared in day-to-day adverts for the product on television, in magazines, and in newspapers in a campaign that ran for some time.

Thanks to being featured in that nationwide campaign, Zahra Bahlewa became a household name, with her beauty remaining in the memories of a majority of Kenyans at the time.

Education and professional career

Long after her modeling career, Zahra Moi decided to further her education, which would expose her to the business and corporate world, a field that is familiar to the Moi family.

In the early to mid-2010s, she attended the United States International University-Africa (USIU-A) in Nairobi. There, Zahra pursued a Bachelor of Science in International Business Administration, which she graduated with in 2015.

Following her education, Zahra Moi went on to hold significant state appointments within Kenya’s tourism sector.

For instance, she was appointed to the board of the Tourism Research Institute in Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.

In addition to her role in government, Gideon Moi’s wife is an independent businesswoman. With knowledge in hospitality and enterprises, Zahra, on behalf of the Moi family, manages The Lord Erroll Gourmet Restaurant.
