May Edochie Sues Ex-Lawyer, Yinka Theisen, Others for ₦1.5bn Over Alleged Defamation and Release of Private Information

May Edochie has filed a ₦1.5 billion lawsuit against Yinka Theisen, her former lawyer Emeka Ugwuonye, and others, alleging defamation, cyberbullying, and the unlawful publication of her private information.
She is seeking damages, the removal of the alleged defamatory content, and court orders compelling social media platforms to reveal the identities of anonymous account operators.

May Yul-Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has filed a ₦1.5 billion lawsuit against Yinka Omolola Theisen, her former lawyer Emeka Ugwuonye, and other unidentified social media users over alleged defamation, cyberbullying, and the unlawful release of her private information online.

According to court documents filed before the Lagos State High Court, May is asking the court to order the removal of social media accounts and posts she claims were used to defame her and damage her reputation. She also wants the court to compel social media platforms to disclose the identities of anonymous account operators involved in the alleged online campaign.

In a 126-paragraph affidavit supporting the suit, May alleged that she has been subjected to sustained online harassment over the past several years through multiple blogs and Facebook pages. She claimed the publications contained false allegations, manipulated photographs, AI-generated images, insulting caricatures, death wishes, and other content intended to ridicule and tarnish her image.

She further alleged that despite issuing legal notices to some of the defendants in 2025 demanding the removal of the offending publications, the attacks continued, with new social media accounts allegedly created to sustain the campaign against her.

May also accused her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, of breaching client confidentiality by allegedly disclosing private information shared during the course of legal representation and publishing defamatory and misleading materials.

The suit seeks ₦1 billion in damages from Ugwuonye and ₦500 million from Yinka Theisen. She is also asking the court to order social media platforms to provide information that could help identify the anonymous users behind the alleged defamatory posts.

Justice Abdul-Raheem Tejumade Muyideen has directed that the court processes be served on the defendants through all known contact channels. The case has been adjourned for a service report.
