Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is advocating for a shift in the club’s transfer policy, urging the owners to prioritize the recruitment of experienced players this summer to complement the current youthful squad.

Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over at Stamford Bridge, there has been a strong inclination towards signing young talents with significant potential, with substantial investments made in hopes of building a team capable of long-term dominance. However, the immediate results have fallen below expectations, prompting Pochettino to emphasize the need for seasoned players to guide and support the emerging talents.

“We can continue with the same policy of signing young players,” Pochettino stated, “but we also have Thiago Silva, Raheem Sterling, and Marcus Bettinelli in the squad. Marcus may not be playing regularly, but he plays a vital role in mentoring the young players.”

Highlighting the importance of experienced figures within the squad, Pochettino emphasized, “It’s not contrary to the project to have players who can provide guidance and professionalism to the young talents, helping them adapt to the Premier League and the demands of Chelsea.”

Pochettino’s comments come amid plans for a comprehensive evaluation this summer, where both the club and the manager will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the current season. The Argentine tactician intends to discuss the need for experienced signings alongside concerns about the team’s injury woes, which he believes have hindered their progress.

“We need to bring in a mix of young talents and experienced players,” Pochettino emphasized. “This involves assessing each player’s injury history and managing the situation effectively. By analyzing the information available, we can determine the best strategy to ensure competitiveness and pursue success in the upcoming season.”
