Many Returned with Nothing but Pain — OPM Responds with Housing, Food and Healthcare

Some Nigerians repatriated from South Africa have arrived at the Omega Power Ministries (OPM) Free Estate in Port Harcourt, where they are being provided with temporary accommodation, healthcare, food supplies, and educational support for their children.

The development was announced on Thursday, June 12, 2026, shortly after the return of OPM General Overseer, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, to Nigeria.

According to reports, many of the returnees arrived with heartbreaking stories of hardship and loss. Some reportedly lost their spouses while living abroad, while others spent as many as 14 years outside Nigeria without returning home. It was also revealed that several of them do not own houses in Nigeria.

Upon arrival, the returnees first visited the OPM Headquarters Church before being taken to inspect a newly acquired estate designated specifically for South African returnees. Renovation works are currently ongoing at the facility.

Pending the completion of the estate, the returnees have been temporarily accommodated in one of the 18 OPM Free Estates across Rivers State.

As part of efforts to address their immediate welfare needs, the beneficiaries were taken to the OPM Free Hospital for comprehensive medical examinations. Medical personnel reportedly identified some health concerns, and arrangements have been made for continued treatment and follow-up assessments.

The returnees were also provided meals through the OPM Free Restaurant located within the hospital premises, while additional relief materials including rice, cooking utensils, soup ingredients, milk, Milo, and other household essentials were distributed to each family.

In preparation for the resettlement of their children, measurements have been taken for school uniforms, with pupils and students expected to commence classes on Monday at one of OPM’s 43 free schools.

The church stated that the intervention programme, including housing, healthcare, feeding, and education support, is funded through tithes and offerings contributed by members of the ministry.

Video interviews detailing the experiences of the returnees are expected to be released in the coming days.
