A 35-year-old man identified as Fwangmun Danung, was on Thursday, February 23, sentenced to one year in prison by a Magistrates’ court in Jos, Plateau State, for insulting and intimidating his father

Danung was dragged before the court by the police. The police prosecutor, Insp Frank Alex, had told the court that on December 26, 2022, the accused dragged his father out of the house, called him a useless and irresponsible man and then threatened to burn down the house if his father did not “settle” him with N200,000.

Inspector Alex told the court that the offense was punishable under Sections 377 and 379 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.

When the charge was read to Danung, he pleaded guilty. The Magistrate, Tapmwa Gotep, sentenced him to six months for insulting his father with an option of N10,000 fine and another six months without fine option for intimidating his father.
