Man rushed to hospital after explosion in London shopping centre car park

A man has been rushed to hospital with burn injuries after an explosion in an underground car park which saw 100 people evacuated from a shopping centre.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Queens Road in Wimbledon after reports of an explosion about 10.10am on Monday.

Police, paramedics and firefighters found the contents of a van had exploded after the vehicle was believed to have struck the roof of a car park.

A Met Police spokesman said the driver, a man in his 60s, was injured and rushed to hospital.

The man's injuries are being assessed.

The spokesman said the incident was ongoing and "is not believed to be terror-related".

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said firefighters were supporting its partners after the incident at a shopping centre.

"Around 100 people were evacuated from the shopping centre," the spokesman added.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) sent resources to the scene.

"We treated a man at the scene for burns and took him to hospital as a priority," a LAS spokesman said.
