Makinde Is Trying To Redeem His Image But Should’ve Just Said,“Sorry, I Helped Ruin The PDP”-Farouk Aliyu

In a recent interview shared by Channels TV, former president Muhammadu Buhari’s close ally, Farouk Aliyu, has weighed in on the deepening leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing key figures of insincerity and political double standards.

Aliyu spoke critically about Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, questioning his recent posture amid efforts to reposition the opposition party. According to him, Makinde’s actions suggest a belated attempt at damage control rather than genuine reconciliation within the PDP. He argued that the ongoing crisis could have been avoided if party leaders had acted transparently and placed collective interest above personal ambition.

Speaking during the interview, Aliyu said: “Seyi Makinde is trying to redeem his image, but he should have come out clean and said, ‘Oh dear Nigerians, I am sorry I was part of this whole contraption that destroyed the PDP or was trying to destroy the PDP.’”

He maintained that internal divisions, ego clashes, and unresolved rivalries continue to weaken the party’s structure and credibility. Aliyu also expressed concern over the inability of key factions within the PDP to agree on a common path forward, despite several reconciliation efforts.

The former lawmaker warned that without sincere concessions and honest engagement among party stakeholders, the PDP risks further decline as a viable opposition force. He stressed that democracy thrives best when there is a strong and united opposition capable of holding the ruling party accountable.

Aliyu concluded by urging political actors to prioritize national interest and democratic stability over personal or factional gains, noting that Nigerians ultimately suffer when opposition parties fail to function effectively.
