London Mayor Sadiq Khan has applauded Nigerian-born TikTok sensation Bemi Orojogun, widely known as “London Bus Aunty,” after she clinched the Video of the Year award at the 2025 TikTok UK Awards.

Khan, in a post shared on his official X handle on Sunday, congratulated the creator, describing her as “London’s very own Bus Aunty” and praising her infectious enthusiasm for the city’s public transport system.

“Her love for our iconic red buses has captured hearts across the country,” the Mayor wrote, pointing out the content creator’s distinct niche.

He added a fun fact for his followers: “And did you know? She’s a proud fan of the Bakerloop, London’s newest express bus route.”

Orojogun emerged victorious from a competitive field that included Friends of Elmtree, Sam Morris, Gardiner Brothers, Joseph Machines, and Brad Ben, all recognised for their standout contributions to the platform.

Her award-winning video has amassed nearly 50 million views, according to BBC News, solidifying her status as one of TikTok UK’s most engaging personalities.

While accepting the honour on Friday, Orojogun encouraged fans not to let age or criticism hold them back.

“Don’t allow your age to stop you. Don’t allow your family to say, ‘Don’t do that, it’s embarrassing.’ If you love it, do it,” she said.

Orojogun shot to fame in 2024 after a creative forced-perspective clip went viral. Since then, she has grown from an online curiosity into a full-fledged digital influencer.

She now collaborates with major global brands including Burberry, H&M, IKEA, Jacquemus, Maybelline, JBL, and most recently MAC Cosmetics.

She has also worked with public figures and agencies, including Mayor Khan himself, on campaigns promoting London’s fleet of 2,000 zero-emission buses.

Fondly dubbed “London Bus Aunty” by her fans, Orojogun’s roadside recordings have inspired widespread admiration, and plenty of humour.

Some Nigerians jokingly challenge her online to try the same stunts in bustling hotspots like Oshodi or CMS, where the iconic Lagos energy would give her a run for her money.
