Living Water Unlimited raises concern over state of Nigerian Church, calls for repentance

Living Waters Unlimited Church, has raised concern over the state of the Nigerian Church while also urging it to repent and go back to its first love.

The church raised the concern in a communique at the end of a three-day national convention with the theme “Never Man Spake Like this”. The convention was aimed at reshaping destinies and Igniting generations.

In the communique signed by its National General Overseer, Pastor Henry Ogbuaku and Pastor Prosper Kanayo – Resident Pastor- Isolo Campus, the church noted that many lives were refreshed and transformed by God’s Word during the convention.

It however observed that the Nigerian Church, which was once renowned for revival fire, missionary zeal, fervent prayer, and societal influence, has gradually declined into decay, false teachings, and corruption.

“Messages of repentance, righteousness, and truth have been replaced with doctrines of convenience, breakthrough without integrity, miracle money without diligence, materialism, motivationalism, and compromise.” The communique read in part.

The church lamented that the faith once delivered to the saints has become transactional, while many believers have grown silent in the face of injustice.

It stated, “The Church has, for the most part, maintained a troubling silence while fellow Christians have been kidnapped and brutally murdered. Week after week, we gather as though these tragedies were distant or insignificant.”

It cited the example of Leah Sharibu, who was abducted alongside several other young girls and remains in captivity for her steadfast refusal to renounce her Christian faith. “This spiritual decline has weakened the Church’s role as the light of the world and the salt of the earth.” Said the church

Darkness over the nation

The communique reads further “As a result of the Church’s failure and compromise, darkness has covered the nation (Isaiah 60:2). This darkness manifests in widespread injustice, immorality, corruption, acute poverty, and insecurity.

“Political leaders and citizens alike mirror the compromise they see in the Church. When the pulpit is silent on righteousness, society embraces unrighteousness and loses the fear of God.

“The prophetic voice of the Church has been drowned by the noise of personal ambition, prosperity preaching, empire-building, and political entanglement. Ritual killings for money—where young men use their girlfriends or even their mothers for wealth—have become alarmingly common.

“Moral decay, unknown in the early days of Christianity, now spreads unchecked. Many young people are turning again to witchcraft and occult practices—vices once courageously confronted by pioneers of the faith such as Ajayi Crowther, Thomas Birch Freeman, and Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola”

Judgement begins in God’s house

While noting that judgment begins in the house of God the Living Water Unlimited Church said unless the Church returns to her prophetic role, Nigeria will continue to descend into moral, spiritual, and social darkness.

It then called on Church leaders and believers to repent of greed, ambition, hypocrisy, and exploitation, and return to sound biblical doctrine while also contending earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints.

“All believers are to live out their faith in holiness, integrity, and love, serving as true ambassadors of Christ in every sphere of life. The Body of Christ is to unite in prayer, deep reflection, and a renewed pursuit of righteousness so that genuine transformation may again be ignited in our land.” The communique stated

The Way Forward

To restore the church back to its first love, Living Water unlimited called for a biblical preaching centred on the gospel of the Kingdom and the raising of disciples who will transform society through godly living and selfless service.

It also urged the church to “denounce corruption and injustice with a clear prophetic voice. Rebuild trust in the Church and in society through transparency, accountability, and humility.”

It called for a collaboration that will lead to the “mentorship of the next generation, address poverty through godly initiatives, and use media responsibly as a tool for truth and righteousness.”

There is hope

Despite the apparent lack lustre attitude in the church, Living Waters Unlimited noted that God has preserved a faithful remnant who continue to uphold the banner of Christ.

It called on others to join in this return to holiness stating, “Nigeria’s healing and exaltation will not come from political systems or economic policies, but from a revival of righteousness in the Church..

The church affirms, “As Scripture declares: We therefore resolve to be instruments of light, calling both the Church and the nation back to God.

“May the Spirit of God breathe afresh upon His Church in Nigeria—restoring holiness, unity, and power for national transformation. The time has come to contend for the faith and unleash the power of the Word of God:”
