List of Approved Mathematics Textbooks for Grade 10 Learners in Senior Schools

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has published a list of approved Curriculum Support Materials for Grade 10 learners in senior schools.

In a notice dated Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the institution outlined approved textbooks across various learning areas, including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) for Senior School under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

KICD also released approved textbooks for Humanities and Business Studies, Technical Studies, and Applied Sciences.

This article focuses on the approved Core and Essential Mathematics textbooks for Grade 10 learners in senior schools, as sanctioned by KICD.

About Senior School in the Competency-Based Curriculum

Senior School is the fourth level of basic education under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), following Pre-Primary, Primary, and Junior School.

The purpose of Senior School is to provide learners with a pre-tertiary and pre-career experience, allowing them to choose pathways and tracks based on their interests, abilities, and demonstrated potential at earlier levels.

Senior School spans three years, typically for learners aged 16 to 18, and lays the foundation for tertiary education, training, and entry into the world of work.

At this level, learners shall take seven (7) learning areas as recommended by the Presidential Working Party on Educational Reforms (PWPER, 2023). These shall comprise four core learning areas, namely: English, Kiswahili, Essential Mathematics/Core Mathematics, and Community Service Learning (CSL).

Learners will choose between Core Mathematics (for learners pursuing the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Pathway) and Essential Mathematics (for learners pursuing non-STEM pathways).

The learner will select three learning areas based on their career choice, aptitude, interests, and personality, with guidance from the Senior School career teacher.

About KICD

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) is the state agency mandated to design and develop curricula for all levels of education below the university level in Kenya.

Its core functions include developing curricula for early childhood education, primary and secondary education, special needs education, and technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
