Let Her Play Project Is About Sport, Health, Education – McAnthony Anaelechukwu

The recent ‘Let Her Play Project’ of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Sports Council has been described as a venture that empowered female teenagers and youths with skills in sports, health maintenance and educational abilities, Sports247 reports.

This was disclosed by the council’s director-general and programme coordinator, McAnthony Anaelechukwu, who stressed the need to carry girls along in the same way that is being done for boys.

He added in the wake of the productive programme that ended on Saturday at New Maracana Sports Complex in Olodi-Apapa (Ajegunle) area of Lagos that 30 girls were selected from 150 participants to form a standing community team.

The coordinator explained that the new team, to be known as Ajegunle Angels, is a symbolic representation of dividends gained from the ten-week programme that was supported by Nathaniel Idowu Foundation for girls aged nine to 15 years.

Anaelechukwu further revealed that all the participating girls were drawn from all across Ajeromi-Ifelodun to provide structured football pathways combined with technical drills as well as sessions covering hygiene, self-esteem and education.

He added, “We wanted to give girls in Ajegunle the same structured pathway boys have. The essence of the project was achieved. This is about careers, not just kicks. We are raising a generation of girls who can work in sport, health and education.”
