Lagos Govt Announces Traffic Diversion At Popular Bridge

The Lagos State Government has declared that traffic diversion measures will be implemented at the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge commencing on Monday, 22nd July 2024, to facilitate emergency repairs.

Naija News understands that this action is taken in response to the deteriorating condition of the asphalt pavement and expansion joints on the bridge.

A press release issued by the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced that the repair work, a testament to the government’s commitment to maintaining the city’s infrastructure, would be executed in two distinct phases, spanning 90 days.

The initial phase of the repair work will encompass the lane bound for Ojota, followed by the lane bound for Yaba/Ojuelegba/Maryland.

Osiyemi further explained that alternative routes, meticulously planned to minimize inconvenience, have been prepared for each phase of the repair work.

For the commencement of the first phase, vehicles travelling from Ojota to Maryland will be rerouted into a counterflow direction on the lane bound for Maryland. In contrast, vehicles travelling from Maryland to Yaba will continue on the same road.

Additionally, motorists originating from Berger, Magodo, and Tollgate along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway are encouraged to utilize the Alapere/Ogudu axis, which leads to Gbagada/Anthony Oke Bridge, to descend the ramp and access Ikorodu Road for their onward journey.

The Commissioner has also advised motorists travelling from Ikeja, Oregun, and Kudirat Abiola Way to utilize the Opebi Link Bridge, which connects Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way inwards to Sheraton through Maryland, to access Ikorodu Road and proceed with their journey.

Motorists originating from Jibowu are encouraged to utilize the Ikorodu Road Service Lane, located adjacent to the Mobil Fuel Station/Bertola Engineering Equipment Company, to facilitate access to the Gbagada/Ogudu axis, thereby enabling them to proceed with their journeys.

A solution exists for those who miss the turn at the Mobil Fuel Station and Bertola Engineering Equipment Company.

The commissioner noted that they can connect with the Anthony Oke Ramp using a Theodolite, re-entering the Ikorodu Road.

This route will lead them to the Town Planning Way, accessible from the Gbagada/Ogudu/Alapere axis, allowing them to continue their journey.

For those travelling from Jibowu towards Ikeja, Magodo, Berger, and the Lagos Ibadan Expressway, Maryland, inwards at Mobolaji Bank Anthony route is highly recommended.

This route provides convenient access to the Sheraton/Opebi area, from where they can proceed to Allen Avenue/Obafemi Awolowo Way and subsequently access the Nurudeen Olowopopo Road, facilitating their onward journey.

Alternatively, upon navigating through the Opebi Link Bridge, motorists are encouraged to follow Kudirat Abiola Way, which will lead them to the Ikosi Road. From there, they can connect to Mobolaji Johnson Avenue/7up and subsequently access the Nurudeen Olowopopo Road, continuing their journey to their desired destinations.

Regarding the project’s second phase, it has been stipulated that motorists entering Maryland/Yaba from Ojota will be redirected into a counterflow lane inbound to Ojota. Concurrently, motorists from Maryland will continue their journey on the same road. Additionally, alternative routes are available for these motorists.

For those travelling from Berger, Magodo, and Toll Gate, it is advisable to utilize Alapere inwards from Gbagada.

This will enable them to link the Anthony Oke Ramp with the Ikorodu Road, facilitating access to their desired destinations.

Similarly, individuals from Ikorodu/Ketu are encouraged to utilize the Ojota Ramp Bridge, which will provide access to Alapere. From there, they can continue their journey as previously outlined.

Drivers travelling from Ikeja, Oregun, and Kudirat Abiola Way are recommended to utilize the Opebi Link Bridge for their journey, exiting at Mobolaji Bank Anthony/Sheraton in Maryland and proceeding onto Ikorodu Road to continue their travels.

The previously mentioned alternative routes for vehicles on their way to Ikeja, Magodo, Berger, and the Lagos Ibadan Expressway from Jibowu, during the initial phase of the repairs, remain accessible throughout the second phase of the repair work.

The Commissioner has reassured the public of the allocation of adequate traffic management personnel to oversee the traffic flow, alleviate anticipated discomfort, and ensure a consistent movement of vehicles.

He has called upon the residents of the state, with a particular emphasis on motorists, to collaborate with the measures implemented during the repair period.
