Kuchoko in the ghetto: Blakk Rasta storms Nima and Fadama with patriotic street campaign

Ghana’s iconic reggae and kuchoko musician Blakk Rasta has reignited his celebrated grassroots project Kuchoko in the Ghetto with powerful street activations in Nima on Friday and Fadama on Saturday flying on the energetic wings of live band music.

The 2025 edition saw the outspoken artist preaching patriotism, unity, and social responsibility, blending these messages with roots African music, known as Kuchoko, for residents in both communities.

This year’s revival of the tradition, which had been paused for some time, was made possible through sponsorship from RNAQ Holdings, Goldbod, Jandel, Controller and Accountant General’s Office and, the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP). The support helped restore the immersive, community-centered energy that once made the initiative a standout cultural movement.

During the two-day outreach, Blakk Rasta moved through the communities with live music, spoken-word messages, and spirited interactions with youth groups. His message centered on love for country, discipline, drug abuse and community empowerment, earning cheers from residents who thronged the streets to witness the performances.

The Kuchoko in the Ghetto series continues with stops at Ashaiman(Sakasaka Park) on Friday, November 28, and Kasoa(Odusec Park) on Saturday, November 29, marking the final phase of the 2025 edition.

With its blend of activism, music, and cultural pride, the revived project once again positions Blakk Rasta as a powerful voice for social change in Ghana’s urban communities. On the trail include artistes such as Friction(VIP), Ruki, Osagyefo, Ras Minano(Australia), Kojo Kombolo and Vibration Kings.
