KNEC Sends Stern Warning After Schools Send Own KJSEA Results Analysis

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued a stern warning to schools and the public after a document claiming to show Grade 9 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results went viral on social media.

In a public statement on their social media handles, the council flagged the document as misleading and inaccurate, stating that the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) does not rank learners or provide aggregate scores.

The document, bearing the name “St. Vincent Depaul Boys’ Boarding Primary School, Mosoch,” claimed to present a detailed analysis of KJSEA results for 2025.

It listed subjects such as English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Science/Technology, Agriculture, Social Studies, CRE, and Pre-Tech, assigning points, percentages, and ratings to each.

The own report further indicated a “mean school score” of 808.14 points and an average grade of “EE2,” suggesting a ranking system similar to the former Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

KNEC Sends Stern Warning

KNEC has dismissed the document as misleading, warning schools that are sending the fake document that they will face severe consequences.

It clarified that under CBC, learners are assessed individually, and performance is reported using competency levels rather than cumulative marks.

“We urge schools to stop misleading the public with fake and inaccurate KJSEA results analysis. Unlike the former system, KJSEA does not provide an aggregate score. Each subject is assessed independently, and learners’ achievements are reported using performance levels, not totals,” KNEC explained.

The council stressed that the CBC approach is designed to nurture individual potential rather than rank learners.

KNEC stated that this means a child’s excellence in one subject is not overshadowed by weaker performance in another.

They also added that there is no school mean score or overall grade as written in the fake analysis.

“There is, therefore, no school mean score as shown in the attached fake analysis,” KNEC reiterated.

The document, which carried a stamp dated December 2025, appeared authentic at first glance, featuring official-looking formatting and subject breakdowns.

However, KNEC confirmed that such aggregated scoring does not align with CBC principles.

The council urged parents, teachers, and school administrators to rely only on official communication channels for accurate information regarding national assessments.

It also warned that individuals or institutions found circulating fake documents risk legal action.

“We call upon all stakeholders to uphold integrity and avoid practices that undermine the credibility of our education system.”

Many families still expect ranking and aggregate scores, practices that were abolished under the Competency-Based Curriculum.
