Joint Security Team Neutralises 4 Gunmen, Recovers Heavy Weapons in Anambra

A Police-led Joint Security Patrol Team in Anambra State has neutralised four suspected armed gang members and recovered a cache of sophisticated weapons and explosive devices during an operation along the Ogboji–Ajalli Road in Orumba South Local Government Area.

The operation, coordinated by the Commander of the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Aguata, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Austin Elaigwu, led to the recovery of a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), AK-47 rifles, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), ammunition and other exhibits.

Providing further updates on the operation, the Anambra State Police Command disclosed that it has identified and established contact with the owner of the white Toyota Sienna vehicle recovered during the raid. According to the Command, the vehicle had earlier been stolen by the armed gang.

The owner of the vehicle has since been debriefed, providing investigators with useful information on how the vehicle was forcefully taken and the operational pattern of the criminal group.

Police authorities said the intelligence gathered from the victim is helping to strengthen security strategies, improve personnel deployment and enhance operational positioning within the affected area and neighbouring communities in order to prevent further criminal activities.

The Command commended the courage, resilience and professionalism displayed by members of the Joint Security Team, stressing that the security gains recorded in the state are products of effective collaboration among various security agencies and the support of Ndi Anambra.

It noted that no single security agency can claim sole responsibility for the prevailing peace and security in the state, emphasizing that inter-agency cooperation and intelligence sharing have remained critical to sustaining safety.

Meanwhile, the Police assured residents that intelligence-driven operations are ongoing to track down and apprehend fleeing members of the criminal gang and their collaborators.

The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts aimed at maintaining peace and security across Anambra State.
