Jakande unleashes 600 tech graduates, says the future of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye is now Digita

…As 600 Youths Exit 3-Month ICT Bootcamp With Laptops, Internships And A Challenge To “Build, Earn, Solve”

The Tinubu Multi-Purpose Hall erupted in applause on Monday as 600 young men and women officially graduated from the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA ICT Skills Bootcamp, a flagship programme of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Dr. Seyi Lawal Jakande.

It was more than a graduation. It was a launchpad. And the message was clear: No more waiting for jobs. Create them.

Three months ago they walked in as beginners. On Monday, they walked out as Full Stack Developers, Graphic Designers, Animators, Data Analysts and Desktop Publishing Professionals.

“Today you are not just graduates. You are job creators in waiting. The world has changed. Your laptop is now your office. The internet is now your marketplace. Your skills are now your salary,” Dr. Jakande told the excited crowd.

He described the programme as the beating heart of his administration’s

“We initiated this because we believe sustainable empowerment starts with knowledge. When you equip a young person with skill, you are not giving fish. You are teaching them how to own the entire fishing industry,” he said.

Top performers walked away with brand new laptops and digital gadgets. Every graduand received certificates plus gift packs with wireless mouse, mini laptop bags and power banks.

Mr. Tolu Akintan of 50KMPH Tech and Mrs. Adeyoola Adenusi of Adeyoola Rehabilitation and Foundation announced immediate internship slots for the best students.

The highlight of the day? A data analysis presentation by Mufutau Olasubomi, Akinyemi Gabriel, Ayeyemi Olabisi, and Oke Muyiwa that broke down the 2023 Presidential Election data. The room gave them a standing ovation.

Full Stack trainee, Atobatole Mathew, spoke for many:
“This was free, it was intensive, and it was real. I came here with just a dream. Today I’m leaving with a skill that can pay my bills and help others.”

Dr. Jakande didn’t mince words. He challenged the 600 to get to work immediately.

“Don’t wait for perfect conditions. Start that website. Design that logo. Analyse that data. Offer your service on Fiverr, Upwork, or to the tailor down your street. Every expert was once a beginner who refused to quit,” he charged.

But he pushed them further — beyond money.
“Technology is not just about making money. It is about making life better. Look at our drainage problems, our market records, our schools. What can you code to fix it? What can you design to promote it? That is how you become a partner in building Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye.”

“You have been trained. You have been equipped. You have been empowered. Now, it is time to put your knowledge to work.”

The event drew the who’s who of the LCDA: Vice Chairman Hon. Gbeminiyi Awodogan, SLG Hon. Mujeeb Daramola, Chief of Staff Hon. Taiwo Ogungbe, Leader Hon. Lekan Adeyi, Council Manager Ms. Ogabi Mojisola, and councilors.

Community pillars were also there — Princess Olufemi Akinlude, Hon. Kayode Olaniyan, Alh. Rotimi Hassan, Iyaloja Alh. Mufuliat Adebunmi, CAN and Muslim leaders, and Youth Coordinator Com. Zakariyah Okeyale.

The Chairman closed with a promise: “This is not a one-off. As long as I am here, we will keep investing in our people. Because our greatest asset is not oil. It is you — our human capital.”

With 600 new digital soldiers deployed into the economy, Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye just got a major upgrade.
