Intron Health Raises $1.6 M

Nigerian healthtech startup Intron Health has raised $1.6 million in pre-seed funding.

The aim for the funds is  to advance its AI technology focusing on perfecting noise cancellation and handling multi-speaker conversations.

Led by Microtraction, the funding round  had participation from :

• Plug and Play Tech Center, 
• Jaza Rift,
•  Octopus Ventures,
•  Africa Health Ventures,
• OpenSeedVC,
•  Pi Campus, 
• Alumni and Angels, and 
• BakerBridge Capital. 

The round also had the input of Global contributors including Google, ClEAR, NYU, and Optum.

This funding  comes after the company developed its first clinical speech recognition service.

The service  has a 92% accuracy rate on medical terminology even with heavy accents.

Launched in 2020 to digitize healthcare, Intron Health assists with Electronic Health Records (EHR) to reduce the documentation burden in clinical administration.

It enables healthcare professionals to enter medical records by converting speech into text.

The company’s clinical speech recognition service covers over  200  accents spoken in developing countries starting with Africa.

 The service speeds up the documentation process by 7x, freeing up time for  doctors to spend with patients.

According to Intron Health, the company  harnesses the power of localised voice technology to revolutionise healthcare and explore new applications across different sectors.

 With roots already in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda, the company offers services to over 30 public and private hospitals.

These include:

•  Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital,
•  Bola Ahmed Tinubu Hospital, 
• Babcock Teaching Hospital, and
•  Meridian Healthcare Group in Nairobi. 

These partnerships enable the company to extend its care services  to over 56,000 patients.

Moving On

Intron Health plans to use the funds to bolster its research efforts, enhance cloud-native and on-premises capabilities, and expand distribution. 

The startup also aims to improve efficiency, enhance health outcomes, and positively impact hospital finances.
