Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has distanced himself from the controversy surrounding the screening of aspirants by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, insisting that as a non-member of the party, the matter is entirely outside his purview.

“I am not a member of the APC, so I don’t know what is happening in their screening,” Wike told journalists during an inspection tour in Abuja. “I’m not a native doctor, nor am I a prophet,” he said. On the emerging political alignment in Rivers State ahead of 2027, Wike said his rainbow coalition would be guided by electoral pragmatism.

Key Points:

Wike’s denial of involvement challenges narratives that he controls APC screening in Rivers State.
His “rainbow coalition” approach suggests flexible political alliances based on electoral strength.
The minister’s focus on infrastructure projects shifts attention away from political controversies.
Wike’s statement that he is not an APC member raises questions about his official political status.
The timing of this denial, amid the ongoing Rivers political crisis, seeks to distance him from party infighting.
