Iheanacho set to sign new two-year Celtic contract

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho is set to sign a new two-year contract with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

Iheanacho impressed during his debut season after joining the Hoops on a free transfer last summer.

The Nigeria international initially signed a one-year deal, with Celtic retaining the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

The 29-year-old scored important goals against Kilmarnock, Dundee, Hibernian and Motherwell, although injuries disrupted parts of his campaign.

Despite attracting interest from clubs in Qatar and Turkey, reports indicate that Iheanacho is ready to commit his future to the Scottish champions.

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill recently confirmed the club’s desire to keep the striker beyond his initial deal.

“I’d like to do something with him (Iheanacho),” O’Neill told Celtic Way.

“If we can do something relatively quickly, at least he then gets started in pre-season, which is really important for him. It’s something he didn’t have last year.”

Securing Iheanacho’s future would provide Celtic with continuity in attack as they prepare to defend their Scottish Premiership title and compete in European competitions next season.
