Buba Galadima, Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has revealed surprising details about his background, challenging common assumptions about his ethnic origins. In a recent interview with Arise TV, Galadima stated that neither of his parents spoke Hausa or Fulani, highlighting his commitment to transcending ethnicity and religion in politics.

Galadima reflected on a past statement where he supported Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as a potential leader based on her capabilities rather than her ethnic or religious background. This stance underscores his belief in evaluating individuals on their merit and ability to contribute to the nation’s progress.

He expressed frustration over the frequent association of his identity with the Hausa or Fulani ethnic groups solely because he is a Muslim. This common misconception overlooks the diversity of his background and perpetuates a narrow view of Nigerian identity.

Galadima emphasized that his political perspective is not influenced by ethnic or religious considerations. He pointed out that, contrary to popular belief, his parents did not speak Hausa or Fulani, thus debunking the stereotype that he belongs to these ethnic groups. He highlighted the importance of moving beyond superficial labels and focusing on the qualities that truly matter for national development.

Hear him: “Here in this studio, I was on record to have said that Obasanjo was going; if Iyabo Obasanjo is the best person that can lift Nigeria up, I would vote for her. That is why, when you’re talking about ethnicity and religion (about me), I just laughed. I’m not in that class; I don’t talk about religion, and I don’t talk about ethnicity because you don’t even know what my tribe is. I have told you before that before my father and mother died, none of them spoke one word of Hausa, let alone Fulani, but because we don’t know each other in Nigeria, I’m looked at as Oh, Buba, he should be a Fulani man. Oh, Buba should be a Hausa man because he’s a Muslim.”..……Se More
