HeFRA shuts down KMA Clinic and 9 others in Ashanti Region

The Health Facilities and Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has shut down the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Clinic along with nine other health facilities in the Ashanti Region for operating without valid licences.

The enforcement action, carried out on Tuesday, October 14, is part of a broader clampdown by HeFRA to ensure health facilities meet the necessary legal and safety standards.

The exercise began on Monday, October 13, and is ongoing.

Officials revealed that the KMA Clinic, despite having operated for several years, has been running without the required documentation and license, in clear breach of the agency’s regulations.

A representative from HeFRA said the operation is focused on protecting public health and ensuring that all medical facilities are held to the same standards.

Since the start of the exercise, 18 health facilities have been closed across the region.

The affected institutions range from clinics to maternity homes, some of which were also found lacking in infrastructure and personnel qualifications.

HeFRA has urged the public to be cautious when seeking medical care and to verify the accreditation status of any health facility they visit. The agency says the enforcement will continue in other regions to ensure compliance nationwide.
