GNB:It Was So Bad, The Day That I Landed,A Military Man Slapped The Prime Minister In The Office–GEJ

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has raised serious concerns about the political situation in Guinea-Bissau after witnessing events that suggest strong interference by the military. Jonathan, who travelled to the country as part of an international team observing the recent elections, described what he saw as a return to the country’s troubled past.

In a video shared by SYMFONI TV, he explained that Guinea-Bissau has struggled with instability for many years. Back in 2010 and 2011, the country faced major political tension, and regional leaders had to step in. Jonathan said that the situation became so bad at one point that, on one of his visits as Nigeria’s president, he arrived to find that a soldier had walked into the prime minister’s office and physically attacked him. That moment, he said, showed just how uncontrolled the military had become during those years.

Jonathan fears that the recent events look similar. Although the country held peaceful elections and international observers, including Jonathan, reported no major problems, the political atmosphere changed suddenly when the military announced that there had been a coup. He suggested that the entire situation seemed suspicious and described it as more of a staged or symbolic takeover rather than a genuine uprising.

Because of this, Jonathan is urging regional bodies such as the African Union and ECOWAS to get involved quickly. He believes their intervention is necessary to prevent Guinea-Bissau from falling back into instability.

In his words, “it was so bad, the day I landed that a Military man slapped the prime minister in the office. It was that bad. And what’s happening is like we’re going back to those dark days of Guinea-Bissau.
