My favorite book is Gifted Hands by Ben Carson. He remains the best paediatric neurosurgeon in the world. He came into fame when he separated the first Siamese twins in 1987.

Ben Carson wrote Gifted Hands as his autobiography to tell the story of his success. It continues to inspire thousands of people around the world even though the book had a lot to do with the medical field. It is a non fiction book and it is made up of 224 pages.

The book tells the story of a young black kid who was raised up in poverty by his single mother, Sonya Carson together with his older brother Curtis Carson, in Detroit, USA. His father left the family when he was just nine years old. He had to struggle with poor performance in school and low self-esteem in his education because his classmates made mockery of his grades. But his loving mother never gave up on her 2 boys even though they performed badly in school, most especially Ben. She became their inspiration and coach. She later introduce them to a lifestyle of reading books.

After some months of reading books from the library, Ben Carson's life changed. He became one of the brightest student in his school and he later graduate as the best student in the school and went on to study medicine at Yale University. He studied diligently until he graduated and later went to Johns Hopkins teaching hospital to study neurosurgery.

In the book, Ben Carson challenged the readers to THINK BIG. If the book can be summarize in two words, I think Think Big will be those words. Even though the odds were against him, he never stopped thinking big, and his faith in God also helped him become successful.

I read this book some years back and it broke every limitation in my mind. It's a great book. I will recommend it to everyone, especially those who don't believe in themselves and in their dreams.
