Genocide exists, but it’s not just about Christians-PFN

The President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop Wale Oke has observed that there is genocide in the country but said however that it is not just about Christians..

According to him, the killings in Nigeria affect every Nigerian irrespective of religion. He made this known in an interview with Punch Newspaper.

He said, “Our position is that genocide exists, but it is not just about Christians. Our concern is that whether Muslim or Christian, stop the killing, that is our priority. We don’t want Muslims to die; and we don’t want Christians to die. We don’t want a situation where there is genocide against Christians today and then it stops, only for there to be genocide against Muslims tomorrow.”

While stating that the wish of the PFN is that genocide is stopped entirely, whether among Muslims or Christians, he said “Government exists for the welfare of its people as a primary responsibility.”

PFN according to him “wants to speak truth to power — to make leaders, whether in the political or any other sector, understand that the welfare of the people is important. The government should stop the killings. No innocent Nigerian should lose his or her life for any reason.”

On the 40th anniversary of the PFN, he said, the fellowship has greatly impacted Nigeria through the preaching of the word of God and it’s investment in the country’s socio economic space.

“Our impact in the educational sector is also not disputable. The Pentecostals have the largest number of private Christian universities.” He said.

He cautioned against negative attitude to the nation saying, ‘there are positive things in this country. Whether we have highlighted them or not, there are good things in Nigeria, and we should begin to identify and talk about them, even as we talk about areas that need improvement.

on the purported coup in Nigeria, he said, “A coup should not happen in this nation, ” adding , “talking only about negative things in the country is not right because if our nation were as bad as we think it is, none of us would still be here”

Bishop Oke noted further that there are about 65 million Pentecostals in Nigeria saying, “Just like those who started Christianity in the country began with schools, the Pentecostals are involved in similar efforts today.

“A lot of infrastructural activities are being carried out by Pentecostals in remote areas. They are making an impact, changing lives, turning things around, and contributing to the economy, as well as to the social and religious life of those communities.”
