The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has debunked media reports claiming 30 deaths in a recent road crash in Kano State, confirming instead that seven people lost their lives.

Statement issued by Olusegun Ogungbemide, Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, noted that the  incident occurred on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at about 8:33 a.m. along Hadejia Road at Kwanar Danja in Gezawa Local Government Area.

It involved a commercial DAF trailer (registration KTG 467 YG) carrying 105 passengers.FRSC operatives conducted on-site assessments and verified rescue operations, revealing the following breakdown:7 adult males killed.70 injured (55 adult males, 15 male children).30 rescued unharmed by the FRSC emergency team.

Preliminary investigations point to speed violation leading to loss of control (SPV/LOC) as the cause.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed condemned speeding as “one of the deadliest traffic violations,” warning that exceeding speed limits compromises control, reduces reaction time, and turns vehicles into “lethal weapons” capable of devastating families. “No journey is worth the loss of innocent lives,” he said.

The FRSC vowed to intensify nationwide enforcement, promising strict penalties for violators. It urged all road users, especially commercial drivers, to obey speed limits, drive responsibly, and prioritize safety to prevent preventable tragedies.

The agency called on the public and media to rely on official information to curb misinformation and anxiety.
