FRC Reaffirms Commitment to Capital Market Development at Professor Uwaleke Colloquium

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), Dr. Rabiu Olowo, participated in the 3rd Professor Uche Uwaleke (PUU) Colloquium on the Capital Market, held at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, reaffirming the Council’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s financial reporting ecosystem and supporting sustainable capital market development.

The colloquium, themed “Future-Proofing Africa-Wide Economic Integration: Infrastructure, Innovation, and Capital Markets,” brought together distinguished scholars, policymakers, regulators, market operators, and other stakeholders from across the financial sector to deliberate on strategies for enhancing Africa’s capital markets architecture and accelerating economic integration across the continent.

The event provided a platform for robust discussions on the role of infrastructure financing, technological innovation, and efficient capital markets in driving inclusive growth and deepening regional economic cooperation under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Dr. Olowo’s participation underscored the Financial Reporting Council’s strategic role in promoting transparency, accountability, and investor confidence through the implementation of high-quality financial reporting and corporate governance standards.

According to the Council, its presence at the colloquium aligns with its mandate of fostering regulatory excellence and supporting initiatives aimed at building resilient and globally competitive capital markets capable of attracting long-term investments and facilitating sustainable economic growth.

The FRC noted that sound financial reporting frameworks and effective governance structures remain essential to strengthening market integrity and ensuring that Africa’s capital markets are positioned to support the continent’s aspirations for deeper economic integration and prosperity.

The annual Professor Uche Uwaleke Colloquium has emerged as a leading platform for intellectual engagement and policy dialogue, bringing together key stakeholders to examine pressing issues affecting the capital market and the broader economy.

By participating in such strategic engagements, the Financial Reporting Council continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing reforms that enhance financial transparency, support economic transformation, and contribute to the realization of Nigeria’s and Africa’s long-term development objectives.
