Former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs during ex president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has been chosen as the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The decision was reached through a consensus arrangement.

The decision was reached late Wednesday night during a meeting of party leaders and stakeholders in Abuja.

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, announced Turaki’s selection after wide consultations among PDP leaders from the North.

The meeting brought together key figures of the party, including the outgoing National Chairman, Umar Damagum; Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal; Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; and former Ministers Jerry Gana, Ibrahim Shekarau, and Ahmed Makarfi.

Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, will now take over leadership of the party as it prepares for future elections and internal reforms.

Further details about the consensus process and official inauguration are expected to be made public soon.
