Ford has unveiled an update to the Kuga for 2026. The biggest news is the introduction of BlueCruise, a hands-free driving system on selected highways. The technology, already known from the Mustang Mach-E, is now becoming available to customers of one of Ford’s best-selling SUVs in Europe.

BlueCruise is a “hands-off, eyes-on-the-road” system. The driver can let go of the steering wheel in specially marked zones on highways while the vehicle takes over steering, acceleration, braking, and lane-keeping. The system is built on intelligent adaptive cruise control and can operate in dense, slow-moving traffic. Ford says this mode of operation can reduce driver fatigue on long journeys.

The network of supported sections covers around 95 percent of motorways in 16 European markets, allowing the system to be used during international journeys. BlueCruise will be available for Kuga with automatic transmission from April this year as part of the Driver Assistance Package. It comes as standard on the higher-spec ST-Line X and Active X versions, while it is available as an option on other packages.

Ford offers multiple activation models. Customers can choose a one-time purchase for permanent access or opt for a monthly or annual subscription, for example, for seasonal travel. All compatible models also come with a three-month trial period.

Along with the auxiliary system, the Kuga also gets infotainment upgrades. SYNC 4 multimedia with built-in Alexa remains the control center for vehicle functions, and the new Premium Connectivity option allows access to streaming services, games, and other digital content directly on the screen.

The Bang & Olufsen premium audio system has also been upgraded. The power has been increased from 575 to 700 W, with additional channels and higher-quality speakers.

The powertrain offering remains broad: customers can choose between plug-in hybrid, conventional hybrid, and petrol EcoBoost versions. For drivers towing a trailer, towing-friendly navigation is also available, which plans routes taking into account the dimensions and weight of the trailer.

With this upgrade, Ford further steers the Kuga towards advanced driver assistance systems and digital content, while maintaining a diverse range of powertrains and equipment.
