Flood Crisis: “Ghana Needs Action, Not Prayers” — McDan

Ghanaian business mogul and philanthropist, Dr. Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, has expressed deep concern over the recent floods that have affected several parts of Ghana, calling for urgent action to address the country’s recurring flooding challenges.

In a Facebook post following Wednesday’s heavy downpour, which caused flooding in parts of Accra and other regions across the country, McDan said he was overwhelmed with emotion as he reflected on the impact of the disaster on affected communities.

“My heart weeps for us. In fact, it hurts this morning. I shed tears last night and at dawn because we, as a people, deserve better,” he wrote.

The founder of the McDan Group lamented that the latest flooding occurred just days after many Ghanaians were still recovering from a previous flood incident, leaving many families once again dealing with loss and destruction.

According to him, the floods have resulted in the loss of lives, displacement of residents, damaged roads, submerged homes, and destruction of farmlands. He also highlighted the disruption to daily life, noting that children are unable to attend school while workers struggle with flooded roads, traffic congestion, and power outages.

McDan attributed the severity of the situation to inadequate infrastructure, pointing to failing drainage systems, overflowing dams, and collapsing bridges as major concerns.

“It’s heartbreaking to see how poor infrastructure amplifies every tragedy,” he stated, questioning when the country would prioritize resilient systems capable of protecting citizens from such disasters.

The businessman also challenged the common response of calling for prayers during national crises, arguing that Ghana’s recurring problems require practical solutions rather than symbolic gestures.

“Our problems will not and cannot be solved by prayers,” he said. “Ghana does not have a prayer deficit. It has an action deficit.”

McDan stressed that meaningful change would only come through deliberate planning, strong political will, and accountability from leadership. He called for investments in stronger infrastructure, climate-resilient policies, and support for communities affected by flooding.

Despite the devastation, he acknowledged the resilience of Ghanaians but maintained that citizens deserve better living conditions and greater protection from preventable disasters.

He concluded by extending his thoughts and prayers to families affected by the floods and urged the nation to advocate for lasting solutions that will help prevent future tragedies.
