Fermin Lopez will remain at Barcelona despite late transfer window speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea.

The 22-year-old midfielder had been touted as a potential solution to Barca’s salary limit issues, with reports suggesting club chiefs explored his sale to ease financial pressure.

Lopez had also drawn interest from Manchester United and Saudi clubs in recent months.

Manager Hansi Flick, however, was adamant the youngster would play a role this season, while Lopez himself publicly declared after the Joan Gamper Trophy that he wanted to stay at the Camp Nou.

Conflicting reports emerged over the club’s stance. Sport claimed Barca executives raised Lopez’s name during salary negotiations with La Liga, while MD insisted the player was never put up for sale unless he asked to leave.

According to journalist Guillem Balague, Chelsea made enquiries but never submitted a formal bid, with Catalan media inflating talk of a €58m offer.

Lopez is said to have briefly considered his options but made no move to force an exit.
