A female Police Inspector, Olivia Obi, who is attached to Ikotun Division of the Lagos State Command, narrowly escaped death after a ticket seller, Azeez Tunde, pushed her under a moving truck on the highway over N100.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 3rd September, 2023, at MTN area of Ikotun, Lagos, where Inspector Obi was on official duty to control traffic in the area.

The 24-year old Tunde was said to have got angry that the Police officer, Obi, was controlling the flow of traffic along the Ikotun-Egbe Road and he was unable to sell tickets to motorists plying the road due to ease of traffic.

According to Police sources, the suspect, Tunde, warned the victim to allow traffic jam on the road to enable him to sell tickets to motorists as the free flow of traffic was affecting him and could not sell much.

However,  the female officer was adamant and continued to control traffic, which ensured that the road was free and it did not go down well with Tunde. He then targeted the officer when a truck was coming from the Egbe area and pushed her under the truck.

However, before the truck would crush her head,  the driver was able to apply the brakes and the female Police officer was rescued. She sustained bruises on her body while Tunde fled thinking that the truck had killed her.

The matter was reported to the Police. Having realised that the officer did not die, Tunde went back to the road to sell the tickets. He was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

During interrogation, he confessed to have deliberately pushed her under the truck because she ensured there was free flow of traffic which affected his ticket sales.

The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace, obstruction and assault on the officer.

However,  he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.

The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.

The matter was adjourned till 9th October, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
