The Fulani Chief of Donkorkrom in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District, Sariki Iddrisu Asambo, has appealed to the government to urgently refurbish the Ekye Amanfrom – Donkorkrom road to improve transportation and boost economic activities in the area.

According to the chief, the poor state of the road continues to create difficulties for residents, traders and farmers, particularly those involved in livestock production, which remains one of the major economic activities in the district.

He appealed for the official commissioning of the Donkorkrom Cattle Market, a newly constructed facility designed to provide a central trading point for cattle dealers and livestock farmers.

Sariki Iddrisu Asambo said the establishment of the market is expected to attract cattle traders from neighbouring communities, with many Fulani herdsmen ready to bring their livestock for trading every Saturday.

However, he warned that the worsening condition of the road could undermine the success of the facility by discouraging traders, increasing transportation costs and making it difficult to move cattle and other goods to the market.

He stressed that improving road infrastructure would not only support the cattle business but also enhance economic opportunities for residents and traders within the district.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kwahu Afram Plains North, Kate Mawusi Babanawo, described the cattle market as a significant investment that would contribute to the economic growth of the district.

She said the facility would provide cattle dealers with a convenient and organised place to conduct business, reducing the need for livestock farmers to travel long distances to access markets.

According to the DCE, the market would help reduce transportation challenges, lower risks associated with moving animals over long distances, and create a more efficient trading system for livestock businesses.

Ms Babanawo added that the project is expected to create employment opportunities, especially for women and young people, while promoting local businesses and increasing the Internally Generated Funds (IGF) of the District Assembly.

The commissioning of the Donkorkrom Cattle Market forms part of efforts to strengthen agriculture and livestock development in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District.
