Ejiofor urges NFF to retain Chelle amid Super Eagles unbeaten run

Former Nigeria international Eric Ejiofor has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to retain Eric Chelle as Super Eagles head coach, citing the team’s steady progress under his leadership.

Ejiofor made the appeal following Nigeria’s 2-2 draw with Poland in an international friendly in Warsaw, praising Chelle’s tactical approach and his willingness to integrate younger players and NPFL-based talent into the national team setup.

Speaking on Brila FM, he said Chelle has brought noticeable improvement to the team’s style of play and overall structure.

“I really think the NFF must keep Eric Chelle as Super Eagles head coach. He has made significant changes to our football, as the team now plays an attractive style,” Ejiofor said.

Chelle’s tenure has also been marked by experimentation, with several new players introduced across recent international windows, including friendlies and invitational tournaments.

The Super Eagles coach has now gone unbeaten in regulation time in 12 matches, with an overall record of 16 wins, nine draws, and just one defeat in 26 games since taking charge.

Nigeria’s recent run has included multiple debutants and a mix of experienced and home-based players, as Chelle continues to build depth ahead of upcoming AFCON qualifying campaigns and future tournaments.

The Super Eagles are next scheduled to face Portugal in another international friendly as part of their ongoing preparation cycle.
