Elsewedy Electric, the Cairo-based cable and electrical equipment manufacturer controlled by Egypt’s El-Sewedy family, has signed a deal with DP World Egypt to build a $29 million (EGP 1.42 billion)  cold-storage facility in Al Oula Industrial City, located in 6th of October City.

The investment will be developed through the family’s industrial business, Elsewedy Industrial Development. The project aims to strengthen Egypt’s cold chain infrastructure, improve food quality, and cut waste, the companies said in a joint statement.

Modern storage hub for food and exports

The 16,194-square-meter site, set within Elsewedy Industrial Development Park, will include eight independently controlled chambers and accommodate up to 25,000 pallet positions for chilled and frozen goods. Products such as fruits, vegetables, and dairy items will be stored for both domestic use and export.

DP World Egypt CEO Mohammad Shihab said the facility will connect directly to Sokhna Port, the company’s freight network, and the soon-to-be-finished Sokhna Logistics Park. “This is about delivering an end-to-end logistics solution,” Shihab said. “It will lower supply chain costs, expand access to new markets, and reinforce Egypt’s role as a regional trade hub.”

Elsewedy Industrial Development CEO Mohamed Al Kammah added that the collaboration reflects the company’s drive to give manufacturers and exporters modern infrastructure that makes Egyptian goods more competitive abroad.

Elsewedy’s wider industrial push

Founded in 1938, Elsewedy Electric has expanded from a local cable maker into a multinational player in energy, infrastructure, and digital solutions. It now operates in 15 countries across the Middle East and Africa. The group, under Ahmed El-Sewedy, has established a solid reputation as a collaborator on industrial projects that complement national development strategies.

The group's industrial arm, Elsewedy Industrial Development offers investors industrial parks with safe facilities, infrastructure, and logistical services. The company has completed ten large projects in six locations in Egypt and Africa.

In Upper Egypt, Elsewedy reached a deal with GTEZ to build an industrial and logistics hub aimed at spurring exports and attracting foreign investment. Beyond Egypt, the group signed a framework agreement through its Algerian subsidiary to invest $2.5 billion in Algeria’s industrial and renewable energy sectors.
