Egypt clinch 2026 World Cup spot with dominant win over Djibouti

Egypt have officially booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a convincing 3–0 victory over Djibouti on Wednesday night at Stade Al Arabi Al Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco.

The Pharaohs, aiming for their fourth World Cup appearance following campaigns in 1934, 1990, and 2018, made quick work of a struggling Djibouti side. First-half goals from Ibrahim Adel and Mohamed Salah put the game beyond doubt early on, with Salah adding a late second to seal the result.

Egypt wasted no time asserting control, with Adel opening the scoring in the 8th minute after meeting a precise cross from Ahmed “Zizo” Sayed. Just six minutes later, Salah doubled the lead with a composed left-footed finish, set up by Mahmoud “Trezeguet” Hassan.

Djibouti, forced to host the match in Morocco due to stadium limitations, offered little threat throughout. Egypt could have extended their lead before halftime, but missed opportunities from Mostafa Mohamed and Zizo kept the margin at two.

After the break, Egypt continued to dominate possession and probe Djibouti’s backline. Salah struck again in the 84th minute—his second of the night and fifth in this World Cup qualifying campaign.

Djibouti’s only real chance came in the 53rd minute when Moussa Wais failed to control a promising through ball.

With this win, Egypt sit atop Group A with 23 points, now mathematically assured of a place at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Pharaohs return home to face Guinea-Bissau on Sunday at Cairo International Stadium in a now-celebratory final qualifier, with their ticket to the world’s biggest stage already secured.
