The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has temporarily blocked the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as ODM secretary general.

The ruling came after Sifuna challenged the party’s decision made on Wednesday.

“That pending the hearing and determination of this instant application, inter partes, this Honourable Tribunal hereby issues orders staying the implementation of the resolution made by the National Executive Committee of the Orange Democratic Movement Party on 11th February, 2026, to remove Edwin Sifuna as the secretary general of the party,” PPDT acting chairperson Gad Gathu ruled.

The tribunal certified Sifuna’s application as urgent and directed that the respondents be served with the complaint and notice of motion without delay.

Sifuna filed the application earlier, seeking urgent relief following the ODM National Executive Committee’s February 11 resolution that purported to remove him from his position as party secretary general.

In his filing, Sifuna asked the tribunal to certify the matter as urgent and to hear it ex parte initially.

He requested orders to suspend the implementation of the resolution and to prevent both the party and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties from publishing it in the Kenya Gazette.

The application also sought an exemption from exhausting internal dispute resolution mechanisms and asked that the respondents cover the costs of the application.

The ODM and the registrar’s office were given seven days to respond, while Sifuna was allowed an additional three days to file any supplementary reply.

The matter is scheduled for mention on February 26, when the tribunal will verify compliance and issue further directions.

Importantly, the tribunal issued interim orders halting the implementation of the ODM resolution and preventing the respondents from publishing it in the Kenya Gazette.
